Leni Berliner creates landscapes that manage to be both serene and celebratory of the inextinguishable beauty of nature. Berliner is interested in many parts of the natural world, from sweeping mountain vistas to faraway sunrises over the ocean. She follows detail - a smattering of raindrops on water - and action - rapids flowing over rocks - in equal part. Adept at capturing both stillness and change, Berliner is an ideal chronicler of the terrain.
It is in her composition and color choices that she imparts the unique perspective that influences, to one degree or another, every one of her works. Berliner describes her composition design as "intuitive." She chooses vistas that include hints about the time before and after her image was painted: where the melting snow is dripping, where the orange light is beaming, where the river is flowing. Her palettes are baseline naturalistic but stylized for contrast to create an emotional resonance. Each work, though whole within itself, tells a story.
Berliner was born in Massachusetts and today lives in Washington, D.C. A longtime acrylic painter, she is also accomplished in three-dimensional mixed media.
